Where should you build your FOB in WARDOGS?
Started building this week. I'm bad at it. Here's what the bad games taught me.
Where should you build your FOB in WARDOGS?
Off the popular spot, out of a gully, and under real cover — on 22 September 2026 PapaKow built one at the bottom of a valley that everybody could shoot down into, and it still wasn't the first FOB to die. The first one to go was the one in the main area of Castle, because that's the most popular spot for blue team, and popular means known.
That's the whole answer. The rest of this is how I learned it.
The base in the toilet bowl
I built in a gully in a valley. Pretty much a toilet bowl — high ground on every side, everyone looking down into it, my teammates getting picked off from above. I had people in chat asking who the idiot was who built that base down in the gully. That was me. I was the idiot.
Now let's go back to the main area of Castle. The FOB there — the sensible one, the obvious one — was the first to go. It's the most popular spot for blue team, so it's the first place the other team looks. A terrible position nobody was thinking about outlived the good position everybody knows.
I wouldn't build in the gully again. But obvious and strong is its own kind of exposed.
What do you build first in WARDOGS?
Protect the FOB first. That much I'm sure of. After that I'm still working it out — build order, timing, what goes up before what, and how to set up air defences properly. There's a lot to consider and I haven't got it sorted yet, and I'd rather say that than write you a guide I haven't earned.
Should you build near trees?
Near them, not in the open patch between them. Second round we went for a small FOB plus an oil rig so we could pull the zone in. Good idea, good spot — then we built in the open part of the trees. The other team had really good chopper pilots and that clearing was a runway for them. They gunned us down and put missiles into the oil drill. The plan was right. The roof wasn't.
Why do teammates ruin your base?
Because they're building too, and they can't see your plan. Walls go up where you didn't want walls. Doors end up where you didn't want doors. Things you needed built don't get built at all. It's frustrating, and it's also completely fair — we're still in the early stages and a lot of people are still learning, me very much included. If you're building with someone, say out loud what you're putting down before you put it down. That's the whole fix.
The good news
Last game of the night I finished on top of the kill list. Never had to go back to base to re-kit once — always got revived, stuck with my team, and we dominated the lobby. So the building can be a mess and the night can still be a good one.
It was interesting.
What's next
More WARDOGS, more bases, and hopefully fewer of them in a gully. The schedule is on the site, the squads sort themselves out in The Clutch Club Discord, and the WARDOGS hub has the rest of what I've written.
You gotta stay gaming.
