The story

Who is PapaKow?

I'm Karl, from Brisbane. I've got a regular day job and a thing for first-person shooters that never really went away. PapaKow is what I do with the evenings and weekends: I go live Thursday and Friday nights and most of Saturday and Sunday, and I play FPS games with whoever turns up.

Right now that's WARDOGS — the 100-player, three-team control-zone shooter that's been my best content by a mile — plus The Finals, Bodycam, Arc Raiders, Battlefield 6 and Helldivers 2 when the squad wants a co-op night. I'm not a pro. I'm a decent player who talks to chat, tries whatever loadout you vote for, and stays on until the clutch happens or the squad falls over. You gotta stay gaming.

The audience is about half Australian and half American, which works out well: Aussie evenings are US mornings, so the chat is never dead and the Discord always has someone in it. That community is The Clutch Club.

The platform

What is papakow.com and why did I build it?

Streaming on Twitch, Kick and YouTube means three chats, three sets of rules, three companies between me and the people watching, and ads in front of my stream that I don't control and mostly don't get paid for. So I built my own place.

  • No ads. The stream on papakow.com is the same feed as the platforms, with nothing in front of it.
  • Memberships go 100% into the stream. No platform cut. If you take out a membership, that money buys the games, the gear and the time to keep doing this.
  • I own the content. Clips, journal posts, loadouts and the game hubs live here, on a domain I control, and stay up whatever the platforms decide.
  • One community. Site chat, Twitch, Kick and YouTube chat all show in one place, ClutchPoints follow you across platforms, and The Clutch Club Discord ties it together.

Who is PapaKow?

Three reasons: no ads for viewers, memberships that go 100% to the stream instead of a platform taking a cut, and one home for a community that's split across Twitch, Kick, YouTube and Discord. Karl owns the content, the chat and the relationship with his audience.

Where is PapaKow from?

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Stream times are in Brisbane time (AEST, UTC+10) — there's no daylight saving in Queensland, so they never move. About half the audience is in Australia and half in the United States.
